Strange, uncommon, but true. That is the story of 49-year-old man, Ganiyu Shina, who was picked up by policemen in Ogun State Command on Thursday, December 15, 2022, after he was sighted bathing with blood by a community river at Kotopo area of Odeda Local Government Area.
The suspect, resident in 4, Oguji Street, Obantoko, Abeokuta, reportedly parked his Nissan commercial vehicle, came out with local sponge and a container filled with blood and started bathing with it.
However, when he noticed that some community members were watching him, he ran away but was pursued and apprehended by them.
The police spokesman in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said that after a community member made a call to Aregbe divisional headquarters, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Bunmi Asogbon quickly led the patrol team to the scene, from where the suspect was brought to the station.
“On interrogation, the suspect claimed to have a spiritual problem, and that a herbalist instructed him to perform the ritual.
“He claimed further that the blood in his possession is not human blood, but that of cow,” the PPRO explained.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the remaining blood should be taken to a laboratory for analysis, in order to ascertain its source, whether human or animal.
The police commissioner commended the community members for not taking laws into their hands.
He assured them that the suspect would be properly investigated.
