The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, has urged staff of the university’s registry to imbibe the spirit of ‘ASIRI’ in the discharge of their duties.

He defined ‘ASIRI’ as adaptation, smartness, innovation, risk taking, and intentionality.

According to the Vice Chancellor, these attributes would empower the staff to work effectively and efficiently in the new normal.

He was addressing participants at the opening of a four-day registry training programme organised by the Registry.

Professor Adebowale, who described the training as an important capacity enhancement programme, noted that training is expected to increase knowledge, enhance skills, and improve outputs.

He therefore urged participants to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi, in a keynote address entitled “Strategic Decision Making and Lean Thinking,” charged participants to develop a mindset that is focused on continuous improvement and respect for people in order to produce value.

This mindset, she said, propels a Lean organisation to work for lasting change, the kind that is for the betterment of the organisation and all stakeholders.

Mrs Faluyi stated that Lean thinkers emphasize real value creation for all stakeholders, instilling a continuous improvement mindset and doing so with respect for the team.

She also added that Lean leadership is defined by the ability to empower and enable people by helping them to achieve professional and personal growth, thus allowing them to take pride in both their work and themselves.

She, therefore, urged participants to embrace the concept of Lean thinking, which creates the most value for stakeholders at the minimum cost, resources, time, energy, and effort.

Some other principal officers of the University, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Professor Oluyemisi Bamgbose, SAN; the Bursar, Mr A. Popoola; and the University Librarian, Dr Mercy Iroaganachi, delivered goodwill messages at the training programme.

The Chairman of the organising committee, Mr U.K. Ekemezie, who is also the the Deputy Registrar, Examinations, Records, and Administrative Data Processing Unit, said the training series was aimed at resharpening the skills of the workforce to render quality services.

Participants included Principal Assistant Registrars, Senior Assistant Registrars, Chief Executive Officers, Assistant Chief Executive Officers, Senior Executive Officers, Principal Executive Officers, Administrative Officers, Higher Executive Officers, and Executive Officers.

Other cadres of staff would undergo their trainings soon.

The theme of the training series is “Building Employees’ Trust and confidence in the New Normal.”
