The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has assured the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, of reduction of crime to the barest minimum during his administration.
The police commissioner also said that officers and men of the Command would respect the rights of all residents in the discharge of their assigned duties.
CP Abaniwonda made the remarks on Monday, February 12, 2024, during a courtesy visit to the governor at the State Government House, Asaba.
The Commissioner of Police, who was recently posted as the 22nd Commissioner of Police, Delta State, accompanied by members of the Command Management Team, was received by the governor and members of the State Executive Council.
During his address, CP appreciated IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who tasked him with the mandate of ensuring that Deltans, residents, and non-residents sleep with their two eyes closed.
He also expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori, members of the SEC, and the entire people of Delta State for their cooperation and partnership in the fight against crime and criminality.
Responding, the Governor enjoined the Commissioner of Police to keep to his promise to erase fears of that might be harboured by the state residents.
The Governor also promised to partner with the police commissioner and provide all the necessary support he and his management team would need, in line with his agenda to enhance peace and security.
The governor commended the outgone Commissioner of Police, now AIG Wale Abass for all he did for Deltans while serving.
The governor assured the CP that Deltans would continue to cooperate with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies for the state to have peace which would enhance development.
The Governor also stated that the State had inaugurated the Police Trust Fund, promising to encourage other stakeholders to partner with the state and support the trust fund.
He also assured on provision of some vehicles to tackle mobility-related challenges being faced by the police command.
This, he said, would be a demonstration of his willingness to strengthen a partnership with the police to curb crime in the state and ensure absolute rural and urban safety.
