Operatives of Rivers State Police Command have arrested 27-year-old security man, Meshack Monday, after he was seen escaping with the car of a customer parked in the company he was working for.
The suspect was apprehended by the operatives in Olu Obasanjo Division on Thursday, May 2, at about 12:45am, when they noticed him driving a Toyota Corolla car in a suspicious manner.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the operatives saw how he maneuvred the car to evade them near the G.R.A junction, leading to his being chased and caught.
During interrogation, Monday, native of Ogoni and security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, confessed to his crime, disclosing that he hid his driving skill since he started work two years ago.
He said that he succumbed to temptation to steal a customer’s car parked for maintenance, having it in mind to sell it and improve his living.
Monday’s unknown driving ability was confirmed by Geepap’s General Manager, Mr. Godfrey, as he said that the suspect stole the vehicle while it was undergoing repairs.
In his comment on the suspect’s arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged individuals to install security cameras and alarms to prevent such incidents outside of working hours.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect had been charged to court, while investigations were still ongoing to apprehend Monday’s accomplices in the car theft ring.
