Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has arrested a 46-year-old man, Ibrahim Ogunrinde, for allegedly stabbing a motorcyclist, Kosu Daniel, (a.k.a Jeje), in an attempted murder.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect, a resident of Adu Town, Ajebo Road, Mile 6, was nabbed at Ijaye Motor Park on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at about 2:30pm
Ogunrinde claimed that he committed the crime as payback for Kosu whom he accused of having an affair with his wife.
In a statement by the State Commander of the Corps, Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo, through the Office of Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, it was said that the suspect, a butcher and farmer, had pretended to be a passenger, asking Daniel to take him to Olubo Town on Wednesday, July 5, at noon.
Along the way, Ogunrinde brought out a knife and stabbed the motorcyclist in the neck and arm, leaving him in a pool of blood while he escaped with the victim’s motorbike.
When interrogated, the suspect confessed that he was motivated by a desire to eliminate Daniel whom he believed had an affair with his wife two months before the attempted murder.
He said that he believed he had succeeded in killing the victim, not knowing that he was rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
“The suspect and the recovered motorbike have been transferred to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of Ogun State Police Command for further investigation and likely prosecution,” the statement read.
Commenting on the arrest, Commander Ganzallo praised the efforts of the Corps in apprehending the culprit, saying that it would serve as a deterrent to other criminally-minded individuals in the society.
