A 25-year-old suspect, Abubakar Musa, has been arrested by Kano State Police Command after he allegedly abducted a two-year-old boy, Al’amin Ahmad Garba, and demanded B50 million as ransom for the victim to regain freedom.
The suspect, from Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Kano, was apprehended on December 25, 2024, following a sustained follow-up and intelligence-led operation by the police, the command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement.
The PPRO disclosed that the victim was rescued from a house in Unguwar Liman, Dorayi Quarters, Kano, where he was hidden for three days.
Thenewsbearer reports that after his rescue, the toddler was reportedly rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, and was medically attended to before his discharge.
He has since been reunited with his family.
It was further learnt that the suspect was charged to Magistrates’ Court 25, Nomansland, Kano, on January 3, 2025, followed by remand in correctional centre by the court.
The Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, who was elated with the arrest of the suspect and rescue of the victim, assured members of the public of the Command’s continuous tireless work in ensuring the safety and security of all state residents.
The police command also encouraged members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals.
