In its continued effort to maintain environmental decorum and sanity at the Gowon Estate area of Egbeda, the Lagos State Taskforce carried out another strategic raid, resulting in the interception of illicit drugs and arrest of 20 individuals suspected of engaging in various criminal activities.
The disturbing cache of illicit substances uncovered by the Taskforce officers during the operation included Colorado, cannabis sativa, and other narcotic drugs and controlled substances wrapped with Nigerian currency.
The operation, which was carried out on 31 road, Wole Omo-Osho Street, Idoani Street and Egbeda Market areas in Gowon Estate, was the third by the Taskforce in the area, to restore orderliness and a drug-free society.
In a statement by the Taskforce Director, Press & Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, some POS operators in the area were also discovered to be using their business as a means to further promote the illicit drug business by helping to wrap the illicit drugs with ₦200 and ₦500 denominations to hide them.
This, the PRO disclosed, resulted in the seizure of the currency to further underscore the severity of the criminal activities being perpetrated in the area.
