Two suspects, Bamisaye Abiodun and Olaniyi Jamiu, have been arrested by the Rapid Response Squad(RRS) of Ekiti State Police Command for car stealing, especially within Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
The suspects were apprehended on Monday, August 18, 2025, at about 9a.m. following a credible tip-off received by the Command, Thenewsbearer reports.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, August 26, the Ekiti Command spokesman, SP Sunday Abutu, said that investigation revealed that Abiodun, aged 35; Jamiu, also 35 years old; and others who are currently at large specialised in stealing vehicles from where they were parked and selling them to their receivers.
The PPRO stated: “The suspects, during investigation, confessed to the commission of the alleged crime and further stated that they are members of the same syndicate with one Babalola Ezekiel who was arrested and prosecuted sometime in 2024 for a case of armed robbery and murder.
“They equally stated that they were planning to go and steal a vehicle from Odo Ado area of Ado-Ekiti before they were arrested.
“Two Toyota Camry cars were recovered from them, while effort is underway to arrest other fleeing gang members and the receivers of the stolen vehicles, as well as for the possible recovery of other stolen vehicles.”
In his comment, the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, called on the general public to be vigilant and report any untoward incident or suspicious persons found in their environs to the police.
CP Eribo assured residents that the Command would continue to work assiduously to ensure maximum safety of lives and property of all in the state.
