Detectives in Osun State Police Command have arrested two suspects, Habeeb Adedayo and Hkeem Fawas, who cunningly engaged a commercial motorcyclist for a ride to a non-existing farm, stabbed him to death in a deserted area, dumped his body and took his bike to buyers for sale.

The arrest was confirmed by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Tuesday, September 2.

Giving a brief of the incident, the PPRO said that on Saturday, August 16, a man reported at Iwo Division that at about 8a.m. same day, his 26-year-old son, Segun Olatunji, who was a commercial motorcyclist, left home to pick passengers within Iwo Town but did not return home.

“Immediately the report was made, police detectives of the Command swiftly put necessary investigation mechanisms in place and, fortunately, the duo, Habeeb Adedayo, aged 27, and Akeem Fawas, 29 years old, were apprehended in Ibafo, Ogun State, while attempting to sell the deceased’s motorcycle.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to have posed as farmers and lured the deceased by employing his service to convey them from Odo-Ori area, Iwo, to their farmland along Olupon, Iwo, with an enticing sum of five thousand naira (N5,000).

“The suspects further confessed that after reaching a certain location, they asked the deceased to stop. Habeeb Adedayo then stabbed him in the neck, dragged him from the motorcycle and slit his throat with a knife. The suspects admitted to have committed the crime.

“Furthermore, Habeeb Adedayo confessed that he, along with three others, excluding Akeem Fawas, had previously carried out three successful operations in areas such as Ori-Eru, Agbowo and Ebu Alare in Iwo.

“The motorcycle, with registration number LAGOS FKJ 595 QN, and a knife were recovered as exhibits,” DSP Ojelabi explained.

He said that the suspects would be charged to court after investigation has been concluded.

Also, on August 29, at about 8:30p.m., a police operative attached to Prompt Response Unit of the command intercepted and recovered a vehicle stolen from Owode Ede and being driven to an unknown destination.

Thenewsbearer learnt that the police officer, who was on stop-and-search duty at Unity junction, Ikire, waved down the driver of a gold colour Toyota Camry with registration number JZ 756 ABC.

However, the driver took to his heels when the police officer was checking the car documents.

The PPRO said that preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was removed from where it was parked at Owode Ede at midnight on the same day, adding that efforts were being made to arrest the fleeing suspect.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, who commended the police officers for the achievements, advised commercial motorcyclists to be vigilant in their picking passengers while pursuing their daily means of living.
