The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has the FCT Police Command arrested a 45-year-old man, David Tersoo, for domestic violence on his wife and children.
The arrest followed a distress call received by the police which reported a case of domestic assault involving an eight-year-old girl, her three-year-old sister, and their mother who was forced out of the house with her nine-month-old baby in the middle of the night.
The Command’s spokeswoman, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement, said that the report made the Commissioner of Police, Wale Ajao, to promptly deploy the Divisional Police Officer, Mpape Division, and Gender Unit detectives to the scene.
The PPRO stated that the police, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, rescued the man’s children, with one of them found with visible bruises.
The children’s mother was later traced and placed in protective custody with her children, Adeh stated.
She added: “The suspect, identified as Mr. David Tersoo, 45 years old, a contractor with a history of domestic abuse, had locked himself behind a bulletproof door while armed.
“After sustained efforts, officers secured his arrest without casualties. A pump-action firearm, white powder, and other suspected illicit substances were recovered.
“He has been taken in for drug testing as part of ongoing investigations.”
CP Ajao, who commended the Ministry of Women Affairs and the vigilant neighbours whose swift intervention helped prevent tragedy, urged victims of domestic violence to always speak out.
He assured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring justice.
