Delta State Police Command recorded a major breakthrough on Wednesday, September 17, in the fight against kidnapping in the state, as its operatives neutralised two suspected kidnappers in a gun duel.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, who spoke on the achievement, disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Owa-Oyibu Division was informed about some kidnappers sighted at Nniogbo Owa Ekei Boji Boji Owa.
The PPRO said that the DPO, who promptly acted on the information, led a combined team of policemen and vigilantes, alongside two teams of Operation Delta Sweep to tackle the suspected criminals.
According to Edafe, the combined teams stormed the bush, but on sighting the teams, the kidnappers started shooting at them, which was repelled by them.
“In the fierce gun duel, two of the suspected kidnappers sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to Owa-Alero General Hospital where they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“During the operation, one AK-47 rifle, 40 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and two magazines were recovered.
“Manhunt for the other fleeing suspects is ongoing,” he stated.
