The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday announced the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose; and the party’s embattled former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Also expelled were the party’s former National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN); Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; George Turner; and Hon. Umar Bature.
The decision was taken at the PDP National Convention after former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, moved a motion calling for their expulsion. George told the gathering that the affected members had consistently engaged in activities capable of undermining and destabilising the party.
Earlier, the Secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee, Senator Ben Obi, had asked delegates to decide whether the convention should be elective. He subsequently moved a motion to adopt it as an Elective Convention, which was seconded by Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN).
In another development, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, moved a motion for the ratification of state executive committees and structures produced through congresses monitored by INEC and security agencies. The motion, seconded by Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu, exempted Imo, Abia, Enugu and Rivers states.
The convention also passed a motion dissolving the current National Working Committee (NWC) and approved amendments to certain sections of the party’s constitution.
