Security forces have launched a major search-and-rescue operation following the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko District of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, on Monday, November 17, 2025.
The abduction occurred in the early hours of Monday, 17 November 2025, when armed bandits reportedly invaded the school at about 4:00 a.m., firing sporadically.
Police tactical units stationed in the area engaged the attackers in a gun duel, but the armed group had already breached the school’s perimeter fence and abducted the students from their hostel.
During the attack, one resident, identified as Hassan Makuku, was shot dead, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained an injury to his right hand.
Following the incident, additional police tactical units, military personnel and local vigilantes were deployed to the area.
The police spokesperson said the combined team was already combing suspected bandit routes and surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the culprits.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, condemned the attack and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. He appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and remain vigilant as efforts continue to restore safety.
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of the North-West, where schools and rural communities have repeatedly come under attack from armed gangs.
