A 20-year-old man, Chigbo Umeugokwe, has been arrested by operatives of Anambra State Police Command attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender unit, Awka, for allegedly abducting and defiling a teenager.
The suspect was nabbed on Tuesday, November 11, with the assistance of the local community security outfit, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday, November 18.
According to the PPRO, the suspect, who was a resident of Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, Aguata Local Government Area, allegedly invaded a shop in the same community on October 29 with a locally-made single- barrel gun and a small axe.
He was said to have worn a red polo shirt, which he tied like a face mask, and abducted a 13-year old girl, took her to a nearby bush and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
Not done with his criminal act, the suspect also allegedly carted away the sum of ₦30,000 from the invaded shop.
Recovered from him were a locally-made single-barrel gun, a small axe, and the red-colour polo shirt he used as a face mask.
“During interrogation, the suspect made a voluntary confessional statement.
“He will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, as part of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and bringing offenders to account,” Ikenga stated.
