Few hours after the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, the Kano State Police Command successfully arrested three principal suspects involved in the crime.
Thenewsbearer gathered that the suspects were arrested during a sting operation which lasted from 10p.m. on till 4a.m. on Sunday , January 18.
They were identified as Umar Auwalu of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, aged 23, who is also a nephew to the murdered housewife; 40-year-old Isyaku Yakubu of Sagagi Quarters a.k.a ‘Chebe’; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, a.k.a Wawo of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, aged 21.
Recovered from the suspects were four clothes with blood stains, the deceased’s two mobile phones, a cutlass, a club (Gora), and some amount of money stolen at the scene, as well as dangerous weapons.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement on Sunday, said that the leader of the killer gang, Auwalu, who confessed to the crime and also admitted that the same syndicate had carried out a series of gruesome killings and attacks in the recent past, including the killing and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
CSP Kiyawa made it known that the Command acted on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensure the arrest the mastermind behind the multiple murder.
He said that on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, a team of police crack operatives successfully arrested the suspects.
The Command commended the efforts of the operatives involved in the operation, as well as members of the public for their prayers, support, encouragement and cooperation, assuring them of its commitment to bringing perpetrators of crimes to justice.
The PPRO added that investigation is ongoing.
