The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday, March 9, assured community leaders and other stakeholders in Kwara State of his determination to deploy the necessary resources and operational support to the Kwara State Police Command to enhance its capacity in tackling banditry, terrorism, and other forms of criminality.
The IGP gave the assurance at the commencement of his nationwide operational tour, with Kwara State as the first port of call.
He was received at the Gen. Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Adekimi Ojo, who was accompanied by Commanders of the state security agencies, senior officers, government officials, the Police Officers’ Wives Association Chairperson, Kwara State Chapter, and distinguished stakeholders.
The Kwara Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement, noted that the decision of the IGP to begin the tour in Kwara State was informed by his most recent operational engagement in the state shortly before his elevation to the topmost position in the Nigeria Police Force.
During the visit, the IGP held strategic engagements with serving and retired police officers, government officials, traditional rulers, and other critical stakeholders.
He listened to concerns regarding prevailing security challenges within the state and reassured the gathering of his firm commitment to strengthening the security architecture to effectively combat criminal elements threatening peace and stability.
Demonstrating his proactive leadership approach, IGP Disu immediately proceeded on an on-the-spot operational assessment of identified flashpoints across the state.
He was in Kaiama Town, Kaiama Local Government Area, which was recently affected by attacks from bandits.
The IGP was received by the Emir of Kaiama, HRH Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, Bagidi kiyaru IV; District Heads; members of the Emirate Council; senior police officers; representatives of security agencies; and government officials.
The IGP also interacted with community leaders and other stakeholders in the area, reiterating the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property while restoring lasting peace and security across the state.
