The Oyo State Government has formally announced the coronation and presentation of Staff of Office to newly-elevated crown-wearing Obas in Ibadanland, in a ceremony that underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and preserving cultural heritage.
The event is scheduled to hold at the historic Mapo Hall Grounds, Ibadan, on Friday, April 3, by 10a.m.
The ceremony will witness the official coronation of three distinguished traditional rulers.
The Royal fathers include His Royal Highness, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, the Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland; His Royal Highness, Oba Oyekola Babalola, SAN, the Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland; and His Royal Highness, Oba Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland.
The presentation of the Staff of Office by Governor Seyi Makinde signifies the formal endorsement of their elevated status as crown-wearing Obas within the Ibadan traditional hierarchy.
This development reflects the evolving structure of traditional leadership in Ibadanland.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information Prince Dotun Oyelade, Governor Deyi Makinde has installed 12 kings and over 40 Baales since 2019, a feat that is unequalled In the history of Chieftaincy installation in oyo state.
Dignitaries from across the country, including traditional rulers, government officials, and members of the public, are expected to attend the event.
According to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Demola Ojo, Oyo State Government reaffirms its dedication to promoting unity, cultural pride, and inclusive development through sustained collaboration with traditional authorities.
