April 5, 2026: Suspected terrorists have attacked two churches in Kaduna State, killing at least seven people and abducting several others in the latest wave of violence in northern Nigeria.
The incident occurred in Ariko community, located in Kachia Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly stormed the worship centres and opened fire on congregants. Local sources confirmed that multiple victims lost their lives during the attack, while an unspecified number of worshippers were taken away by the hoodlums.
A community leader, Mark Bawa, confirmed the attack, noting that the casualty figures were still being verified as of the time of reporting. Security agencies have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Kaduna State and other parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups frequently target rural communities, religious centres, and civilians for killings and kidnappings.
Recent months have seen a series of similar assaults in the region, with churches and villages repeatedly attacked by bandits, often resulting in mass abductions and fatalities.
Authorities are expected to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of those abducted.
