Suspected terrorists have killed a Brigadier-General, alongside other soldiers during an attack on a military formation in Borno State, according to an AFP report.
‎
‎The senior officer, identified as Brigadier General O.O. Braimah, was said to have died in the line of duty when insurgents launched a coordinated assault on a military base in the troubled North-East region.
‎
‎Military sources indicated that the attack occurred in the early hours, with heavily armed fighters overwhelming troops after a fierce gun battle.
‎
‎Several soldiers were also reportedly killed, while others sustained injuries during the confrontation.
‎
‎The incident marks a significant loss for the Nigerian Army, coming amid renewed attacks by insurgent groups targeting military installations in Borno and surrounding states.
‎
‎Security analysts say such assaults are often aimed at looting weapons and weakening troop morale, as extremist factions linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) continue to intensify operations in the region.
‎
‎Efforts to repel the attackers and secure the area were said to be ongoing.
‎
‎The North-East has remained a hotspot of insurgency for over a decade, with repeated attacks on both civilian communities and security forces despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
