Policemen from Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 55-year-old man, Yesiru Salisu, for allegedly being in possession of four human skulls, two dry human hands and jaws.
The suspect, a resident of 7, Odenusi Street, Ijebu Igbo was picked on Monday, November 23, 2020.
Police image-maker in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that Salisu was arrested after a report at Ago Iwoye police station that he dropped a bag he was seeing with and, fled into a bush when accosted.
The person who reported had told the police that the bag had been suspected to contain stolen property.
The PPRO said that the report made the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ago Iwoye Division, CSP Paul Omiwole to lead detectives to the scene.
On opening the bag, the police were said to have discovered that it contained dry human parts.
“…the bush he ran into was properly combed and the suspect was subsequently apprehended.
“When interrogated, the suspect confessed to exhuming the human parts from one Christian cemetery at Oke Eri, Ijebu Ode, in connivance with one Lekan Bakare who is currently at large,” Oyeyemi stated.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police also directed that efforts should be made to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and bring him to justice.
