SISTER of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, have been rescued unharmed by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her children, Peter and Paul, were rescued at about 7:30p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid, the victims were abducted on June 3, 2026, while Mrs. Adegoke was driving her children to school in Ibadan at approximately 7:30 a.m.
The police said the successful rescue followed days of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations that enabled investigators to track the movements of the kidnappers.
The operation culminated in a confrontation between the suspected abductors and FID-IRT operatives.
During the exchange, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while two rifles were recovered from the scene.
The rescued victims were unharmed and have been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and necessary support.
Inspector-General of Police commended the courage, professionalism, and dedication of the FID-IRT operatives and other officers involved in the operation, noting that their resilience and commitment were instrumental in securing the safe rescue of the hostages.
Meanwhile, security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who fled during the operation.
Preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries.
The police said ongoing operations are focused on tracking down, arresting, and prosecuting all those connected with the abduction.
The Nigeria Police Force also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their support, cooperation, and patience throughout the operation, reaffirming its commitment to combating violent crime, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
