IJEBU-JESA, Osun State — Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday escaped unhurt after a podium collapsed during a political rally held in Ijebu-Jesa, Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred during the inauguration of Imole canvassers for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency. The governor was seated on the platform alongside several top government officials and political associates when the structure suddenly gave way.
Among those on the podium at the time were Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, and spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi.
Witnesses said the collapse happened shortly after a musical performance as the event anchor was preparing to introduce the next segment of the programme.
The unexpected incident caused panic among attendees and briefly disrupted proceedings.
Security personnel quickly moved in to evacuate the governor and other dignitaries from the collapsed structure.
Despite the scare, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Organisers subsequently restored order, and the rally resumed. Governor Adeleke later addressed supporters before departing for another engagement in Odo-Otin Local Government Area.
Reacting to the incident, the governor’s deputy spokesperson, Oladele Bamiji, dismissed reports suggesting the situation was severe, stressing that the event continued smoothly and that all officials involved were safe.
The cause of the collapse had not been officially disclosed as of press time.
