‎Police confirm three security operatives killed in NIPSS attack in Jos

Jos, Plateau State – The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the death of three security operatives following an attack by gunmen on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 16.

‎The confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, in Jos.
‎
Thenewsbearer learnt from the statement that the operatives were on duty at the nation’s foremost policy training institution when the attack occurred.
‎
‎“The Plateau State Police Command, on a very sad note, wishes to confirm the incident that occurred in the early hours of today, June 16, 2026, involving security personnel on duty at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru,” the statement read.

‎“Regrettably, three security personnel lost their lives during the incident.”
‎
‎Following the attack, the command said security had been reinforced around the facility to prevent further breaches and reassure residents.
‎
‎“Security reinforcements have been deployed, and patrols have been intensified around the general area by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah,” Alabo stated.
‎
‎The police assured members of the public that calm had been restored and that normal activities had resumed in the area.
‎
‎“The situation is under control and normal activities have resumed,” the statement added.
‎
‎The command further disclosed that investigations into the attack were ongoing and urged residents to remain calm while security agencies work to apprehend those responsible.
‎
‎“Investigation is ongoing. The command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses,” the statement noted.
‎
‎The police promised to provide additional information as investigations progress.
‎NIPSS, located in Kuru, Plateau State, is Nigeria’s premier institution for policy research and strategic leadership training for senior public officials.
‎
‎The attack is considered one of the most significant security breaches recorded at the facility in recent years.
