The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State Command, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has removed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Oyigbo police station following a publication currently circulating on various online platforms alleging misconduct involving him.
In the circulating video, the DPO was alleged to have extorted someone of N500,000. In another case, he allegedly accused a woman of stealing her two children, arrested and charged her court, resulting in her being remanded in prison custody until the fulfilment of bail conditions.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, in a statement on Sunday, June 21, said that the removal of the DPO was “in response to the allegations and in line with the Command’s commitment to transparency, accountability and professionalism,” pending the outcome of a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
“The Rivers State Police Command remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, discipline, and service delivery.
“The Command also appreciates the vigilance of members of the public and encourages citizens to continue reporting incidents of misconduct through appropriate channels,” the PPRO added.
The Commissioner of Police, who expressed dismay over the incident, said that the Command would not tolerate any form of misconduct, abuse of office or actions capable of undermining public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He assured members of the public that the investigation would be conducted diligently, professionally, and without bias.
