The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer and recovered a large quantity of substances believed to be cannabis sativa valued at about ₦5.8 million during an operation in the state.
The command disclosed that the suspect was apprehended by operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad following intelligence-led investigations aimed at curbing drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the state.
According to the police, the operation led to the seizure of several packages of the suspected illicit drugs, which were allegedly intended for distribution within and outside the state.
The recovered exhibits have been taken into custody as part of ongoing investigations.
Police authorities said the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
They reiterated the command’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes, noting that the sale and abuse of illicit substances often fuel other criminal activities, including cultism, robbery and violence.
The command also urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to aid efforts at ridding communities of drug dealers and other criminal elements.
The arrest is part of ongoing security operations across Anambra State aimed at improving public safety and reducing the activities of criminal networks.
