The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a welder, Andy Giwa, and recovered a locally-fabricated pistol from his workshop in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest followed credible intelligence received by the command on Friday, September 11, 2026, alleging that Giwa, a resident of Imogun Street, Uso, was working on a pistol at his workshop.
Acting on the information, operatives of the Uso Police Division stormed the workshop, where they recovered the locally-made firearm and arrested the suspect for questioning.
During interrogation, Giwa reportedly claimed that the pistol belonged to another individual whose identity has yet to be established and who is currently at large.
The police, however, said efforts had been intensified to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect, while investigations continued into the circumstances surrounding the possession, manufacture and intended use of the firearm.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has consequently ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The probe, according to the command, would determine the source and purpose of the firearm and establish whether other individuals were connected to the incident.
Ohagwu commended the concerned citizen whose timely information enabled the police to recover the weapon and prevent its possible use in criminal activities.
He urged members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence on suspicious activities, assuring them that the identities of informants would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the proliferation and unlawful possession of firearms in Ondo State through intelligence-led policing and proactive operations.
It also urged residents to report suspicious persons, movements or possession of firearms to the nearest police formation or through the command’s official communication channels.
