Former Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has died in the United Kingdom.
The former governor, who governed Kogi State between 2003 and 2012 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, reportedly passed away on Sunday.
Family sources and political associates were said to have confirmed the development, triggering an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, supporters and residents of Kogi State.
Idris served two terms as governor after first assuming office in May 2003.
His administration oversaw various infrastructure, education and healthcare projects across the state during his nearly nine years in office.
Born in Idah, Kogi State, the late politician was a businessman before venturing into politics.
He emerged as governor in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007 before legal challenges led to a fresh election, which he subsequently won, returning to office in 2008.
Following the completion of his tenure in January 2012, Idris remained an influential figure in Kogi politics and the affairs of the PDP in the state.
He was succeeded by Idris Wada.
