The Lagos State Police Command, through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), has sensitised about 400 students of the Police Children School, Ikeja, on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, negative peer pressure and other social vices.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, October 3, saying the sensitisation programme was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with the theme, “Right Choices, Great Future.”
According to her, the programme was aimed at promoting positive values and empowering the students to make responsible choices capable of securing a better future.
Adebisi said a member of POCACOV, Mr Henry Bassey, encouraged the students to remain law-abiding and maintain open communication with their parents, teachers and trusted adults, particularly when faced with threats or troubling experiences.
She added that a mental health expert from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Dr Hezekiah Akinlade, educated the students on the dangers of drug and substance abuse and urged them to resist negative peer pressure and make healthy choices.
The POCACOV Coordinator, Lagos State, SP Olivia A. Ugochukwu, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, urged the students to remain focused on their education, choose their friends wisely, respect their parents and teachers, obey the law and shun behaviours capable of jeopardising their future.
Adebisi said the programme formed part of the Command’s preventive approach to combating cultism, drug abuse and other social vices through early engagement, awareness and positive value formation among young people.
