The South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) has urged politicians to embrace issue-based campaigns and shun misinformation, unfounded allegations and personal attacks ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The guild, in a statement signed by its Acting Chairman, Chief Tunde Busari, and Publicity Secretary, Mr Remi Oladoye, said political campaigns should focus on policies, development plans and practical solutions to the challenges confronting the people.
SWEGOP urged political actors to demonstrate their readiness to govern by presenting clear programmes and explaining how they intend to address the needs of the electorate.
It warned that the spread of misinformation and unsubstantiated allegations could undermine public confidence in the political process, calling on politicians to embrace responsible communication and constructive engagement.
The organisation stressed that issue-based campaigns would promote informed choices by voters and encourage peaceful and meaningful democratic participation.
In a related development, SWEGOP has called on the Federal Government and state governments to declare a state of emergency on roads following extensive damage caused by rainfall in several areas.
The guild expressed concern that many roads had been washed away or rendered impassable, exposing motorists and other road users to hardship and disrupting the movement of people and goods.
It urged the relevant authorities to urgently rehabilitate damaged roads, improve drainage systems and implement sustainable measures to prevent further deterioration, particularly during the rainy season.
SWEGOP noted that the worsening condition of roads required immediate and coordinated intervention to safeguard lives, ease transportation and protect commercial and economic activities from disruptions.
The guild called on all levels of government to prioritise road infrastructure and provide lasting solutions to the challenges confronting road users across the country.
