Polaris Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability with a tree-planting exercise at the Lekki Conservation Centre in Lagos State, in partnership with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).
The initiative, held on Monday, October 19, forms part of the bank’s efforts to promote climate action, environmental conservation and sustainable community development.
Since launching its nationwide tree-planting programme in 2024, Polaris Bank has planted 10,000 trees across 16 locations in the Federal Capital Territory and 13 states.
Speaking at the event, the bank’s Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking, Abimbola Ozomah, said sustainability remained a guiding principle in its operations and community engagement.
“At Polaris Bank, sustainability is not a slogan, it is a principle that guides our daily actions. It is about transforming bold commitments into measurable impact,” she said.
Ozomah noted that the trees represented more than environmental conservation, adding that they could help restore degraded land, support livelihoods and empower communities.
She explained that planting economic trees could also improve soil fertility, increase vegetation cover and create potential income-generating opportunities as the trees mature.
The executive director stressed the need for collective responsibility in tackling environmental challenges, noting that employees, partners and other stakeholders had important roles to play in promoting conservation.
“The power of small actions, when multiplied, creates extraordinary change. As we put these seedlings into the ground, let us commit to nurturing them and, in so doing, nurturing the future we all desire,” she added.
The exercise highlights Polaris Bank’s continued investment in practical environmental initiatives aimed at strengthening climate resilience, restoring ecosystems and supporting community development.
Through its nationwide tree-planting programme and partnerships with organisations such as the NCF, the bank said it would continue to promote collective action towards a greener and more sustainable future.
