The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has raised the alarm over alleged plans by hoodlums linked to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Governor Seyi Makinde to attack members of the Park Management System (PMS) and other supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.
The organisation alleged that the planned attacks were part of efforts to intimidate opposition members and suppress the growing support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, on Sunday, November 8, SSACO said the alleged plot followed a series of attacks in the state, including an incident in October that reportedly led to the death of an APC member, while several others sustained injuries in similar attacks over the past two months.
The campaign organisation also accused suspected agents of the state government of vandalising and destroying billboards belonging to Senator Alli, the APC governorship candidate in the state.
According to SSACO, intelligence reports indicated that some PMS members were planning attacks on NURTW members supporting the APC, particularly a popular member known as Oyere and his followers.
It alleged that the suspected attackers monitored APC supporters at Senator Alli’s manifesto unveiling held at Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall last Tuesday, where names of NURTW members, especially recent APC defectors, were reportedly identified and discussed.
The organisation further claimed that the large turnout at a weekly NURTW meeting chaired by Oyere at his office had heightened tensions among those allegedly plotting the attacks.
SSACO alleged that a meeting convened around 10pm on Friday at the directive of a senior member of Governor Makinde’s inner circle resolved to launch coordinated attacks on APC-supporting NURTW members and disrupt their weekly meetings to weaken the party’s support base.
On the billboard controversy, the organisation accused the state government of intimidating billboard operators who provide advertising spaces for Senator Alli’s campaign, alleging that some proprietors were being forced out of business.
It described the destruction of the campaign billboards as an attack on democratic participation and an attempt to restrict the APC’s freedom to campaign across the state.
SSACO said the alleged intimidation reflected fears of electoral rejection by Adekanmbi and Governor Makinde, insisting that such actions would not discourage voters from supporting Alli and other APC candidates in 2027.
The organisation also criticised the Makinde administration over what it described as seven years of local government paralysis and inconsistent policies affecting education, healthcare and public service delivery.
It called on the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and other security chiefs to investigate the alleged plot and take preventive measures to avert political violence.
The organisation also urged residents to hold Governor Makinde and Adekanmbi accountable for any attacks arising from the alleged activities of their supporters, warning that the safety of lives and property in the state must not be compromised by political rivalry.
