A man, Adeniyi Stephen, his wife, Adetola Adeyinka, and one other man, Ojo Sulaimon, have been nabbed by policemen in Ogun State Command, for allegedly siphoning diesel from the mast of Globacom Nigeria, a giant telecommunication industry in the nation.
The suspects, domiciled at Agosasa area of Ipokia Local Government Area of the state, were arrested on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.
Disclosing this in a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the suspects were arrested after a complaint, lodged at Ipokia divisional headquarters by one Joseph Gaul Ekanem, that some thieves had been coming with a Volkswagen Passat car, with registration number BNS 261 AAA, to siphon diesel from the mast situated in Agosasa.
Oyeyemi said that the report made the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ipokia division, SP Adebayo Akeem, to detail his detectives to launch an investigation into the case, with a view of bringing the perpetrators to book.
“The investigation led to the impounding of the vehicle, which subsequently resulted in the arrest of the three suspects.
“They have all confessed to the commission of the crime. They also confessed to have siphoned 32,651 litres of diesel, valued at N8,162,750 million,” the PPRO stated.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that Stephen was a staff of the company and the mastermind of the operation.
Oyeyemi added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered that the suspects be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
