Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers, with arms and ammunition recovered from them.

The suspects, Sheriff Shonibare a.k.a Stainless, and Quadri Ayonuga a.k.a Sugar, were arrested at Idimu area of the state during a stop-and-search operation on February 23, 2021.

According to the police image-maker in the state, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrest was prompted by investigation into a connection with the case of one Peter Arinola a.k.a Blood, who had been initially arrested with an English pistol at Empire area of Surulere, while he was threatening a commercial sex worker to have his way, free of any charge.

The PPRO had disclosed Arinola’s arrest in a statement on February 14.

In another statement issued on Sunday, February 28, Adejobi said that the two new suspects were arrested by police operatives attached to Idimu Division, based on intelligence gathering by Surulere and Idimu Divisions, that they had some arms in their possession.

He added that they were assisting the police in their investigation, as they made many disclosures.

Also, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) nabbed three suspected kingpins of some criminal gangs, as well as other suspected armed robbers, whose names had yet to be released by the command.

The RRS operatives had stormed the suspects’ hideouts at Mushin Area to get those using it as a field of operation, as well as other parts at the mainland over the weekend.

They also impounded 29 motorcycles as part of the onslaught against criminals and lawlessness in the state, Adejobi stated.

He said that the operation, which was led by the Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, was a follow up to earlier discreet investigations by the squad’s Decoy Team on Eko Boys High School, Showunmi Street and Itire Road, all in Mushin.

He added that the impoundment of 29 motorcycles during the weekend operation was to reduce the reported incidences of traffic robbery, and to enforce the restriction order of the state government on the corridor for motorcyclists.

Adejobi said that the motorcycles were impounded  on BRT lane on Ikeja Along Road, as well as Ile Zik and Allen Junctions, which were restricted routes for motorcycles.

Reiterating the order of the state Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, Adejobi said that the RRS commander disclosed that the enforcement of the restriction of motorcyclists would continue, in order to restore sanity to the areas and reduce robbery incidents at sensitive spots on the corridor.

He pointed out that motorcycles were their major means for escape after such operations.

The PPRO said that this made the Commissioner of Police to direct Egbeyemi to work with other units, to conclude investigations on the kingpins and other suspects arrested in Mushin, while the motorcyclists would be charged to mobile court Oshodi with immediate effect.
