Police operatives attached to Festac Division in Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 43-year-old man, Jonas Nnubia, over an alleged defilement of his wife’s niece (names withheld), at 1st Avenue, L Close, Festac.
Nnubia was arrested on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at about 3pm, according to the state police spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Sunday, April 4.
The PPRO said that the 15-year-old girl told the police that her aunt’s husband had defiled her severally, and also warned her not to disclose his act to anyone so that she would not die.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the victim was led to the police station in company with some officials of the Child Protection Network, Lagos State, and later taken to the hospital for necessary medical examination.
This, Adejobi stated, was to assist the police in carrying out discreet Investigation into the matter.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for proper investigation and subsequent prosecution.
The police commissioner also promised to continually partner with the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and other interest groups in fighting against gender and domestic-based violence in the state.
