Five maritime workers, three others regain freedom from abductors

Eight people, among who were five members of the Maritime Workers of Nigeria (MWUN) that were abducted by gunmen on the waters in Rivers State on Monday, July 19, 2021, have regained their freedom.

Thenewsbearer learnt that the travellers were released in the evening of Saturday, July 24, as a result of the intervention of the Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh and other stakeholders.

The news of the travellers regaining their freedom was broken by the NIMASA DG after a phone conversation with the President-General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju at about 8:15pm.

The victims were said to be in good physical condition, with the MWUN President General being expected to provide further detailes later.

It will be recalled that the eight persons were travelling to Port Harcourt from Kula area in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, before the gunmen abducted them at the Kula-Abonnema waterways.
