•Sale of PMS to commercial vehicles reduced to N10,000

The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State Command, Ayuba Elkaana has announced the ban of weekly markets in the state, in strict compliance with security measures emplace by the government.

Elkana made announcement on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Gusau.

He also said that there would be no sale of petrol in Jerrycans while the amount to be sold to commercial vehicles has been restricted to N10,000, among other measures.

In reference to the announcement made on Friday, August 27, 2021, by the state governor, Dr Mohammed Bello Matawalle, on about seven proactive security measures, the Commissioner of Police spoke on the the preparedness of the police and other security agencies to ensure full compliance by all and sundry.

Elkana said that the security measures were announced by Governor Matawalle in his determination to stem the tide of activities of criminal elements, which made him to direct all security agencies, especially the police, to ensure full enforcement and compliance.

The state police boss listed the measures as follow:

•All weekly markets across the state are hereby closed indefinitely.

•No sale of petrol in Jerrycans

•No movement of motorcycles /tricycles (Keke NAPEP) in Gusau from 8pm to 6am, while in local governments outside Gusau, movement would be from 6pm to 6am.

•All filling stations should not sell petrol of more than N10,000 to commercial vehicles.

•Ban on carrying firewood across the state.

•Suspension of transportation of livestock outside the state, while those coming to the state must undergo thorough investigation to authenticate the genuineness of the livestock ownership.

•Motorcycles to carry not more than two persons at a time.

Elkana said that the new security measures introduced by the state government came after due consultation with the security agencies and other critical stakeholders, adding that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, were ready and had since commenced action to ensure full compliance of the directives.

The police commissioner also disclosed that a joint task force which would be responsible for the full enforcement of the directives would be constituted on Monday, August 30.

He issued a warning to all on the seriousness of the government and the security agencies in their quest to end the lingering security challenges in the state, enjoining them to comply with the directives.

According to him, “we will not tolerate an attempt by any person or group to contravene any of these measures, as we are fully committed to ensuring that full wrath of the law is applied to the offenders.

“I equally want to encourage everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, to key into the ongoing crime prevention measures initiated, to collectively rid the state of activities of unscrupulous elements.

“It is also paramount to state categorically that the new security measures are not politically motivated, but in the best interests of the state.”

He called on the good people of Zamfara State to remain law abiding and collaborate with security agencies, in ensuring the restoration of peace and security to the state.
