•Olajide’s gruesome murder, sad commentary on nation’s security -House of Reps minority caucus

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned the killing of Omoyele Sowore’s brother, Felix Olajide Sowore by suspected kidnappers on Saturday, September 4, 2021, calling on the Edo State Police Command to fish out the killers urgently.

The deceased was a pharmacy student at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, before he was shot dead by the kidnappers who also abducted five other victims.

In a statement by the Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the organization wondered why such a brain would be wasted mindlessly, describing the killing as one “too many.”

“We call on the Edo Police Command to find his killers without delay. This kind of tragedy should not be happening around this time. We are not unaware of the travails of the victim’s senior brother in the hands of security agencies.

“It saddens our hearts to learn of this heartbreaking calamity at this time. The police must therefore go all out for Felix’s assailants.”

MURIC also enjoined all right-thinking Nigerians to condemn the killing, saying that it was a heinous crime and an act that was wicked, heartless and inexplicable.

“The killers can run but they cannot hide. The long arms of the law must catch them. Our hearts bleed for the Sowore family at this time. We pray that Almighty God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss. We console the indefatigable activist, Omoyele Sowore.

“We salute his doggedness and ask him to take heart. It is not over until it is over. May the killers of Felix (Olajide) never find peace,” MURIC stated.

Also, the minority caucus in the House of Representatives said that the gruesome killing of Olajide by suspected terrorists was just another sad commentary on the security situation and hopelessness in the nation under the current administration.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the
Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu decried the unabating killing of Nigerians, particularly the youths, with that of Olajide Sowore, the younger brother of the publisher of Sahara Reporters and rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, being the latest.

“It is indeed heartbreaking that our nation’s promising young ones are being daily felled and maimed by bandits, terrorists and kidnappers who are now freely marauding our country, while the government looks overwhelmed and helpless.

“Our caucus deplores the ceaseless killings and kidnapping of students and school children in various parts of the country, as well as the failure of government to take decisive steps to halt the trend,” Rt. Hon. Elumelu said on behalf of the caucus.

A call was thereby made to the Inspector General of Police to immediately track down the murderers as well as other terrorists and criminal gangs causing havoc in various parts of the country, and bring them to book.

“Indeed, our nation cannot afford to be losing our bright and promising young ones to marauders. While condoling the families of the victims, our caucus charges President Muhammadu Buhari to take clear steps to tackle the insecurity in the country,” the caucus further stated.
