The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has been commended for approving the promotion of members of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) up to CONTISS 15.
The commendation was given during a courtesy visit of the National/Zonal Executive Committee of the Association to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, in his office.
In a statement by the university’s Principal Assistant Registrar/Public Relations Officer, Directorate of Public Communication, Adejoke Akinpelu, the Zonal Coordinator, Mr Joseph O. Olurinde thanked the Vice Chancellor for the training and retraining of NAAT members and for giving a piece of land to the UI Branch for its Secretariat.
Mr Olurinde, who noted NAAT as an association of professionals not known for hooliganism, stated that the association uses collective bargaining and peaceful negotiations to get the entitlements of its members.
The Zonal Coordinator further commended the VC on how he had been handling staff matters since he assumed duties, urging him to implement the promotion to CONTISS 15 in the 2022 promotion exercise.
Mr Olurinde also asked that members of his association should be given the headship of such offices as the Equipment Maintenance Centre and the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory.
The Vice-Chancellor, in his remarks, noted a dearth of technologists in the university due to retirement, change of career paths and resignation.
He stated that there should be no competition between the academics and the technologists, as each professional is a master in his own field.
He commended the UI branch of the NAAT for being mature in airing the grievances of its members.
Prof Adebowale assured that the University would continually train and retrain the technologists within its means.
