Two suspects, Emmanuel Thompson and Joshua Godwin, were arrested on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, by detectives in Ogun State Police Command for allegedly conspiring to gang rape an 18-year-old girl (name withheld).
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspects were arrested after the rape victim reported at Ogijo divisional headquarters.
She reportedly told the police of how she boarded a commercial motorcycle at about 8am on same Tuesday, from MRI company area to Ogijo bus stop, but was diverted to another route after the rider had picked another man as a passenger.
She stated further that immediately the diversion was made, the man who acted as a passenger started threatening to kill her if she didn’t cooperate with them.
She complained further that they forcefully took her to a room in one house in the area, where two other men were waiting for them. On getting there, she added, the two men they met in the room and the passenger who joined her and the rider on the bike took turns to have sex with her forcefully.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the police spokesman in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that immediately the teenager made the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo division, CSP Onatufe Umoh, detailed his detectives to the scene where two among the suspects were apprehended while others escaped.
Saying that the two arrested suspects confessed to the commission of the crime, SP Oyeyemi stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
The CP also directed that the escaped members of the gang must be hunted for and brought to book.
