Operatives of Delta State Police Command’s Decoy Squad of the Commissioner of Police on Sunday, September 11, 2022, foiled an attempt by armed robbers to operate within Asaba, the state capital.
The Command, according to the police spokesman in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, had received a call at about 4:30am from Hausa Market in Asaba about some suspicious-looking persons using a tricycle in the area.
Edafe said that in swift response, the operatives were sent to the area.
On sighting the police, the hoodlums reportedly abandoned a defaced tricycle and took to their heels.
When a search was conducted in the tricycle, the operatives recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, 12 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and 23 live cartridges, all concealed in a black polythene bag and hidden beneath the rear passenger’s seat.
The PPRO stated further that in collaboration with local vigilantes, efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the efforts of the state residents in availing the Command with useful information that aids crime fighting, the Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali urged them to continue in the collaboration.
The police commissioner gave an assurance of protecting the identity of anyone who gives information to the Police, adding that they would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
