A 12-year-old boy, Yusuf Abubakar, was on Sunday, October 2, 2022, shot dead by his elder brother, Abubakar Abubakar, of Dutse Gogo Town via Kaiama, Kwara State, while testing the efficacy of a protective charm against gunshots which he procured.
Both were sons of a man also known as Abubakar Abubakar, a hunter in the said town.
This incident, which was reported at Kaiama Police Station at about 10pm, was said to have occurred after the two brothers fortified themselves with the protective charm.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident, said that the the elder son brought his father’s dane gun and shot his younger sibling who died instantly when the charm failed.
“The culprit escaped into the bushes immediately the act was committed.
Investigation into the matter has commenced as directed by the Commissioner of Police Kwara State, CP Paul Odama,” the PPRO said.
He advised parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children in order to avoid activities that could allow such incidents .
