Two suspected internet fraudsters, popularly called ‘Yahoo Boys’ have been arrested by police operatives in Ogun State Poluce Command for killing a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Azeez, for ritual.
The victim, after being killed, was reportedly cut to pieces with the intention of using his body parts for money making ritual.
The suspects were identified as Friday Abinya Odeh, aged 21, and Poso Idowu, 20.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Sunday, October 9, 2022, said that the suspects were arrested after a report at Owode Egba divisional headquarters on June 9 by the relations of the victim.
The relations told the police that the victim left his home at Kobape area on June 8 and had not returned, according to the PPRO.
This made the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to direct the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the investigation and unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the man.
Oyeyemi said: “In compliance with the CP’s directive, the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led team subsequently embarked on technical and intelligence-based investigation which led them to the hideout of Friday Abinya Odeh on the September 22, where the Airtel SIM card of the victim was recovered. His arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice Poso Idowu.
“On interrogation, the suspects confessed that they kidnapped the victim on the 8th of June, 2022 at Kobape area, at about 7:30 pm, from where they forcefully took him to the bush, killed him and cut him to pieces.
“They also confessed further that it was one herbalist simply identified as ‘Arab Money’ who they claimed to have contacted on Facebook that prescribed the ritual process for them.
“All efforts to recover the remains of the victim proved abortive as the suspects claimed to have disposed of it.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the suspects be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
