The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected illicit drug dealers and recovered substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other hard drugs valued at ₦6.2 million, alongside ₦598,400 in cash.
The arrests followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug dealers operating in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
Acting on the intelligence, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Obosi in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and arrested two male suspects identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, also known as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of the suspected illicit drugs valued at ₦6.2 million, as well as ₦598,400 in cash.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, while the location was reportedly being used as a meeting point by suspected criminals after their operations.
The police said some of the suspected criminals fled the scene when they sighted the operatives.
The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigation continues to determine the source and distribution network of the drugs, identify other persons linked to the operation and establish the circumstances surrounding the cash recovered.
The operation, according to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, is part of intensified intelligence-led policing by the Command in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and denying criminals safe havens across the country.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Oji Ama, said the Command would sustain targeted raids and proactive operations against criminal elements and their operational bases across the state.
He also urged residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to provide the police with credible and timely information on suspicious persons, criminal activities and suspected criminal hideouts.
