One of the kidnappers who escaped with bullets wound during gun battle with the police operatives in Ogun State Command on Friday, June 4, 2021, has been found dead in the bush, while another one was arrested.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the one arrested, who gave his name as Mohammed Bello, had just been released from prison in Oyo State.
It will be recalled that the operatives had an exchange of gunfire with the suspects who abducted a Tipper lorry driver same day at Mologede area of Odeda Local Government Area.
One of the kidnappers was shot dead while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries after the Divisional Police Officer of Bode Olude police station, DSP Durojaye Rotimi, mobilised his men in conjunction and other security groups to the scene of the kidnap.
The police image-maker in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said on Sunday that while the victim was rescued, a massive manhunt for the escaped members of the gang was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun.
“In compliance with the order, the entire forest of Mologede was combed, and in the process, the dead body of one of the kidnappers was found, while another with bullet wounds was arrested.
“The arrested one, who identified himself as Mohammed Bello, was discovered to be an ex- convict who had just been released from prison custody in Ibadan, Oyo State,” the PPRO explained.
He said that some packets of a banned drug, Tramadol, and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, were recovered from them.
To this end, the police commissioner ordered the transfer of the suspect to Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
