President of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the attack on Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, describing as unacceptable, the string of brutal attacks on individuals and communities in the state, with the governor as the latest target.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement on Sunday, March 21, 2021, that the President has also welcomed the move to dispatch a high level team of crack investigators to the state from the police headquarters in Abuja.
According to Shehu, the president urged the police officers to uncover whoever or whatever was behind the attacks and bring such to justice.
Expressing his sympathy and that of the federal government to Benue Governor and all the state indigenes, President Buhari advised against policitising the unfortunate incident, stating that an attack on a Nigerian is an attack to all.
Shehu added that the President enjoined the Police to do a thorough investigation into the incident involving the governor, and into all incidents affecting individuals and communities in the state.
“Let there be open and transparent investigation, and whoever is linked to it should be caught and be made to face the law,” Shehu quoted the President to have said.
