The Ogun State Police Command has found the lifeless body of a 76-year-old man, Sikiru Olatunji, in a forest at Imasayi.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the septuagenarian was declared missing on Saturday, February 8.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the discovery, said that the corpse was found about one and a half kilometres from Wasinmi Abule Maria via Balogun Village in Yewa North Local Government Area.
She stated that the discovery was made after an extensive bush-clearing operation and a coordinated search effort by police officers from Imasayi Division, assisted by Amotekun operatives, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), the Baale, and local hunters.
According to police reports, the deceased was found lying face-up with his cutlass by his side. No visible signs of violence were observed on his body, leaving the cause of his death unclear.
“Following the recovery, the deceased’s family requested and was granted custody of the corpse for burial.
“However, the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and are soliciting useful information from the public to aid their inquiry.
The Ogun State Police Command urges anyone with relevant details to come forward and assist in ensuring a thorough investigation,” the PPRO said.
