•Puts operatives on alert

Ogun State Police Command has warned cultists who intend to mark July 7, 2021 to celebrate cultism, to have a rethink and retrace their steps, as security agencies will meet such a move with stiff resistance.

Giving the warning in a statement on Monday, July 5, 2021, the command’s spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that intelligence report at the disposal of the police revealed that members of various unlawful cult groups were planning to mark what is called ‘7/7’ on Wednesday, with the event likely resulting in bloodletting and wanton destruction of property.

“In view of this, the command wishes to warn those having such devilish intentions to have a rethink and retrace their steps, as such move will be met with strong resistance by security agencies.

“To this end, all the command’s tactical squads namely: SWAT, Anti-Cultism, and Anti-kidnapping, as well as the Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders, have been put on red alert to nip in the bud any act capable of undermining the security of the state.

“The full weight of the law will descend on members of any unlawful societies who intend to use public places to perpetrate evil, as the command will not fold its arms while some misguided and unscrupulous elements attempt to make life difficult for law abiding citizens of the State.

“The Command is, therefore, using this medium to appeal to parents and guardians to warn their wards to steer clear of any unlawful gathering on, before and after the said date, to prevent a regrettable situation.

“Also, hoteliers are, by this release, warned not to allow their facilities to be used for any cult-related gathering, as owners of such facilities will be liable for prosecutions,” the PPRO stated.

Assuring members of the public to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment, intimidation and molestation, the command said that it had rolled out all in its arsenal to deal decisively with anybody trying to breach the relative peace being enjoying by the good people of the State.
