Suspected hoodlums in the early hours of Saturday, December 12, 2020, attacked a petrol station at Moniya area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and killing a security guard during their robbery operation.
The lifeless body of the guard, identified as Isau Yisah (43), was discovered when workers resumed for work in the morning.
The security guard was met in a pool of his blood at the wheel alignment section within the filling station.
An injury was found on his head, while a blood-stained plank, suspected to have been used on the deceased, was seen close to where his body lay.
Security guards working in within the community were said to have resisted the armed robbers from carrying out their operation, resulting in exchange of gunfire between them.
Thenewsbearer learnt that it was after the gunfire exchange that they were able to gain entry into the filling station, killing the guard, before carting away plasma TV, provisions and other items.
It was believed by the residents that the hoodlums might have killed the guard because they thought he could identify some of them.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi confirmed the story.
The PPRO said that the case was reported to the police at Moniya Division by the owner of the filling station, Mr Olatunji Isaac, at about 9.05a.m.
Fadeyi said that Isaac told the police that the body of the deceased was found within the premises of the filling station, while unknown hoodlum(s) broke into his office and stole a Plasma TV, valued at N40,000, and some provisions with yet-to-be-known value.
The PPRO added that the corpse was immediately removed to General Hospital, Moniya and deposited in the morgue.
He said Investigation had commenced into the crime, adding that efforts were being intensified to arrest the culprit(s).
He enjoined members of the public and communities nearby to give the police credible information that could lead to the arrest of the hoodlums.
