KIDNAPPERS, in the early hours of Monday, stormed the Ahmadu Bello University staff quarters in Samaru, Zaria and abducted a staff, alongside his wife and daughter.
A statement released by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Auwalu Umar, on Monday, disclosed that immediately the victims were abducted, the university’s security put a distress call to the police intelligence response team.
The statement said the police team arrived at the scene and there was an exchange of fire between them and the kidnappers.
“When it was clear that they would be overpowered, the kidnappers ran into the bush with the victims.
“As the police went after them up to Kasuwar Da’a village, bordering the university, the kidnappers then released the wife and daughter and went away with the husband.
‘The Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies, as well as relevant government establishments have been duly informed of the unfortunate incident.
“’The vice-chancellor urges the university community to remain calm and vigilant to avoid a recurrence of the incident.”
When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammed Jalige, said the police were on top of the situation.
The latest incident came 48 hours after nine students of the institution were released by kidnappers after a ransom of N9 million was paid.
