A 25-year-old man, Muniru Haruna, has been arrested by detectives in Odeda Division of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the incident was reported by the toddler’s mother, Alaba Abdullahi, aged 20, at the out station at Orile-Ilugun on March 1, at about 11a.m.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest, said that the mother reported that Haruna, residing in the same area, committed the act when the toddler was playing nearby.
The PPRO stated that the incident was discovered when the mother heard her child crying and quickly went to investigate, only to find her emerging from the suspect’s room in evident distress.
“Upon further examination, it was revealed that the victim had difficulty walking and exhibited signs of physical trauma.
“Alaba (the mother) immediately sought assistance, and both the victim and the suspect were transported to General Hospital, Odeda, for medical examination and necessary treatment,” she disclosed.
While awaiting the doctor’s results, the PPRO said that the suspect, who denied the allegation, had however been taken into custody.
The case, referred to the Division Crime Branch for investigation, would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran after the completion of the preliminary inquiry, the police spokeswoman added.
